Gray hails Owls character

18 April 2015

Stuart Gray hailed the character of his players following the dramatic 2-2 draw with promotion hopefuls Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Owls led then had to come from behind at the last in a Championship thriller at The Goldsands Stadium.

And Gray told swfc.co.uk: “One thing we have in that dressing room is true character.

“Whether we score in the 90th minute, the 92nd minute or the 95th minute, there is always a chance because these players will play to the end.

“I’m proud of them today because they have come up against a team who are riding high and who score goals for fun but we have come away with a point, which is the least we deserved.”

With the Cherries leading 2-1 going into stoppage time, the points seemed destined to stay on the South Coast, only for the Owls to spoil the party by scoring a penalty right at the last.

Gray added: “I never doubted we could get something from the game, even at the end.

“I’m pleased for Atdhe, who came on and won us the penalty and I thought Chris Maguire showed great composure to slot it into the back of the net.

“We even had another chance after that when we broke and that would have been something but overall, we have to be happy with the point.”
