Growing stronger

  • Atdhe Nuhiu pleased with progress
  • Striker feels tough start to Owls career has made him stronger
  • Owls enjoying their football

His introduction to English football was tough but Atdhe Nuhiu feels both himself and the team have grown stronger and into challengers in the Championship.

Nuhiu arrived at Hillsborough in summer 2013 and had to wait until November the same year to win his first game in the blue and white – which ironically came against this weekend’s opponents Reading.

But the turnaround since then has been vast and the Owls have very much hit the ground running in 2014/15 under the guidance of head coach Stuart Gray.

Wednesday sit just one point outside of the top six after seven games and Nuhiu is very happy with the progress on all fronts.

He told swfc.co.uk: “I have enjoyed it here from day one but we didn’t have a great start when I arrived. Looking back, I think this has made everyone stronger.

“How we worked our way out of that situation was incredible and not many people thought it could happen but we did it.

“Now we are playing well and everyone is enjoying it even more.

“When you win games, you wake up happy. When you lose a game, like we did against Forest, you have to react well, like we have done with four points from our last two away games.”

With all Wednesday’s victories this season coming away from home, the towering striker wants to bring that form to Hillsborough and believes a three-point return is well overdue.

He added: “It’s time now for us to get three points at Hillsborough. Everybody is waiting for that. We want to make sure we give the supporters three points this weekend."
