Helan returns

12 July 2013

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of former loan star Jeremy Helan from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.

The utility man returns to Hillsborough after two successful loan spells in the 2012/13 campaign, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

The 21-year-old joined Wednesday on a temporary basis from the Premiership giants in November 2012 and his loan deal was promptly extended in January 2013 after impressing at Hillsborough.

Helan, who is a product of the City academy, made a total of 28 appearances for the Owls last term and proved effective both in the left full back and wide midfield roles.

The pacey Frenchman, who has also enjoyed loan spells with Carlisle United and Shrewsbury Town, attracted the attention of a host of clubs after rising to the fore with the Owls but has committed to Hillsborough until the summer of 2017.

Owls boss Dave Jones said: “We are delighted to get the boy back because we have done a lot of hard work to get him here.

“Other clubs were aware of what he did here last season and wanted him on board but he really enjoyed his time here and wanted to come back.

"To get Jeremy on a permanent transfer represents a really good signing for the football club and is a statement of intent because he is a really talented footballer, he is young and has a terrific future in the game.”
