Hungry for goals

18 December 2014

Owls forward Chris Maguire feels the only thing missing from his game at present is goals.

The Scot bagged ten for Wednesday last season – all of which came in the second half of the campaign.

And Maguire wants to replicate that run with the games coming thick and fast over the festive period.

He said: “I think the only thing missing from my game at the moment is goals.

“It’s around about this time last season when I kicked on and hopefully that can happen now and I can bang some goals in.

“I feel that I am getting my best form back but that’s the only thing missing.”

Maguire has been the preferred choice to start out wide for Wednesday, although he openly admits his favoured position is as a central striker.

With his wide role comes additional responsibilities – particularly on the defensive front but Maguire is more than happy to chip in, as he explained:

“I’ve defended a lot more this season, it’s a team game and I’m happy to help the team in any way.

“I see myself as a striker but it’s good for me that I can play in a number of positions and I’ll always give it everything.

“Over the last few weeks, I think I’ve shown that I deserve to stay on the pitch for the full game and hopefully that will continue.

“I want to stay on as long as I can because in the last ten minutes of games, they open up and I feel I’ve got it in me to come up with a winner.”
