If there was a winner...

2 February 2016

If there was to be a winner from the Championship clash with Burnley, the Owls were the favourites said Carlos Carvalhal.

The two promotion contenders earned a point apiece from an even affair at Hillsborough, with Kieran Lee cancelling out Andre Gray’s early opener.

Carvalhal said: “I thought a draw was the correct result but if one side was going to win the game, it was going to be us.

“They scored an early goal but we scored just after half time as the players responded.

“I said to them at half time that we have more speed to give, another gear to go to, which would cause problems.

“We saw that in the second half and I thought we played well. We scored a good goal, we had chances, and Barry Bannan three times shot from long range and went close.

“We saw two good teams tonight and two teams who will cause problems for most teams in the Championship.”

The Burnley stalemate extended the Owls’ S6 run of resistance to 14 games, prompting Carvalhal to pay tribute to everyone in the Hillsborough camp:

“This is because everyone is together and I say thank you to everyone because we have made Hillsborough our strong home.

“My staff have been incredible and also everybody else around me and in the club.

“The environment we have created is positive at our home and the longer we can extend that, the better.”
