In a strong way

Wednesday are set to welcome back a number of returning players in the coming weeks.

Following Saturday’s win at Fulham, head coach Carlos Carvalhal confirmed that Keiren Westwood, Tom Lees, Michael Turner, Alex Lopez, Lewis McGugan and Sergiu Bus are all nearing their return.

He said: “In a short time, Westwood will be back to normal training, Tom Lees will be back to the normal training, Turner and Lopez the same.

“I believe also that Lewis McGugan doesn’t have a big problem, Jack Hunt was sick for the last game and Bus is training now also.

“So in one or two weeks we will be with the full squad.”

Despite those injuries, Carvalhal is happy that his side have remained a strong force in the Championship with three wins from the last four and in touching distance of the play-off pack.

He explained: “Some teams can lose one or two important players in the squad and they feel a very big problem.

“We never say that we have a problem.

“We give confidence to the players we have but really when we lose Lees, Turner, Hunt and Westwood – we are talking about four players from the defensive part of the team and we are still in a good position.

“We are still winning games and doing well that’s very important to us because it means we are in a good way and believe in all the players.”
