  • Owls triumph over Reading at Hillsborough
  • Stuart Gray hails players' commitment
  • Wednesday up to sixth in Championship

Stuart Gray has hailed the sheer hard work of his team that once again led from the front, this time to secure victory against Reading.

Stevie May’s second half strike proved the difference at Hillsborough as the Owls extended their excellent start to the season.

Wednesday are now sixth in the Championship table.

And Gray said: “It’s all about the team. I’ve just said to the players that they deserve that win today because they have given the crowd something to shout about.

“And that has come from the graft they have put in. We defend from the front and we have done that superbly.

“I think in Atdhe Nuhiu and Stevie May we have two of the hardest working strikers in the division.

“And credit to them all because they deserve the rewards they are getting.”

Gray also paid tribute to Keiren Westwood, who saved a first half penalty from Glenn Murray to set the Owls on the route to victory.

He added: “We gave two penalties away at Middlesbrough and another one today and I think it was the right decision.

“But we’ve kept this one out and credit to Keiren, who did wonderfully well to save it.

“He’s been outstanding since we got him into the building in the summer and I am fortunate to have two excellent goalkeepers.

“I thought we might have had a penalty ourselves but it wasn’t to be and the referee can only give what he sees.”
