Joe Bennett seals Owls loan switch

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Aston Villa left back Joe Bennett on loan until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old will remain at Hillsborough until 30 June.

Having come through the ranks at Middlesbrough, Bennett signed his first professional deal at The Riverside in the summer of 2008.

The promising full back had impressed sufficiently to earn a two-year deal and made his debut for Boro in their clash Premier League clash with West Ham in May 2009.



He went on to make 92 appearances for Middlesbrough before Aston Villa came calling in August 2012 for a reported fee of £2.75m.

Bennett made 30 appearances during his maiden season at Villa Park, becoming a regular performer in the top flight.

He joined Brighton on a season-long loan in August 2014 and starred in the Championship, making a total of 42 appearances for the Seagulls before returning to Villa in the summer.



Upon signing a one-year extension to his contract at Villa Park, Bennett moved to join Bournemouth on loan in September 2015, until January of this year.

The full back has made one appearance for Aston Villa this season during their 5-3 victory over Notts County, where he scored his side’s fifth goal in extra time.

At international level, Bennett has been capped by England at Under-19, 20 and 21 level.

Bennett will wear squad number 12 for the Owls.
