Kamil Zayatte stepping up to the plate

27 February 2015

With Glenn Loovens sidelined through injury, Wednesday defender Kamil Zayatte has stepped up to the plate.

Owls head coach Stuart Gray has been pleased with the Guinean stopper, who has featured in Wednesday’s previous three fixtures.

Zayatte was a key figure in the midweek win over Millwall, partnering Tom Lees in central defence and Gray said:

“He has got fantastic experience and a good habit of being in the right place at the right time.

“He puts his body on the line and that’s what you need your defenders to do.”

“You could see the other night we were under the cosh but defended really well. Kamil’s reading of the game is good and he’s built up a good partnership with Tom Lees.”

Now the Owls boss wants to see a consistent run from Zayatte and during his pre-match press conference on Thursday, he added:

“The most important thing now he has got in the team is that he stays in the team.

“He’s a full international, who has played in the Premier League so we know he is a good player.”
