Lees on target for 21s in Owls return

2 February 2016

The Owls Under-21s registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Middlewood Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Returning defender Tom Lees stored a valuable 75 minutes under his belt and notched the Owls’ second goal of the game after Ryan Meadows had earlier put the hosts ahead in the first half.

There were also starts for Michael Turner and Caolan Lavery, the latter of which created the first opening of the game on ten minutes.

The striker turned his marker inside the box and forced a fine stop from the Forest goalkeeper.

Wednesday continued to pile on the pressure as Keenan King glanced a header just wide from a Brad Beatson cross and Lavery struck inches wide of the right hand post.

The opening goal arrived just after the half hour mark.

Jack Stobbs delivered superbly from the right and Meadows was on hand to head home at the back post.

Soon after the resumption in the second half, Lavery saw a goal ruled out for offside before the Owls strengthened their grip on the game.

From a goalmouth scramble, Lees prodded home to double the Owls’ advantage and put the game beyond Forest.

Owls: McDonagh, Centeno, Beatson, Croasdale, Lees (De Haviland 75), Turner (Anderson 61), Stobbs, Clare, Lavery, King, Meadows
