Let the hard work begin

1 July 2015

Owls defender Glenn Loovens was happy to be back at the club’s training base on Wednesday morning as the squad reported back for pre-season duty.

The 31-year-old signed a one-year contract extension earlier in the week and is now looking forward to the season ahead.

In high temperatures at Middlewood Road, Loovens told swfc.co.uk he was delighted to extend his stay at Hillsborough and is ready for the hard work to begin.

He said: “I have really enjoyed my time here so far and feel part of the family and hopefully now we can push for something special.

“We know this is a tough league to play in but you always want to aim for the highest and the highest is to get promoted and we have to go for it.”

Newly installed head coach Carlos Carvalhal took his maiden training session on Wednesday morning and Loovens has said the players have returned buoyant from the summer break.

He added: “There are a lot of new faces in the staff and a lot of players to come in as well but the atmosphere is good and everyone is happy to be back.

“The first impressions have been very good, our new head coach likes to play football and hopefully we will give the fans good football.

“I’ve been in the game long enough to know hard work in pre-season is a necessity and I’m ready to go.”
