Sheffield Wednesday have secured the loan services of Watford midfielder Lewis McGugan.

The 26-year-old will stay with the Owls until 1 January and be eligible to feature on Saturday as Wednesday face Huddersfield.

The exciting midfielder has forged a fine reputation at Championship level with goals and assists at the forefront of his armoury.

McGugan is a product of the Nottingham Forest academy and made over 200 appearances for the Reds in his seven years at The City Ground.

During his time at Forest, the schemer scored 44 goals from the engine room, which gave him an impressive ratio of one goal every four games.

In his first campaign at The City Ground, McGugan won the Goal of the Season for his stunning free kick against Gillingham which ensured Forest stayed in the battle for promotion to the Championship.

His form was invaluable the following campaign as the Reds won promotion to the second tier, with McGugan chipping in with seven goals.

It took no time for the midfielder to adapt to the Championship and McGugan is now firmly established at this level.

Such has been his  prowess from midfield down the years, McGugan finished as Forest’s top scorer in the Championship in 2010/11 with 13 goals.

In July 2013, McGugan penned a three-year deal with Watford and continued his excellent strike rate at Vicarage Road, scoring 11 goals in 37 games throughout last season.

The midfield man will now link up with Stuart Gray’s squad in time for the trip to West Yorkshire on Saturday when the Owls face Huddersfield (12.15pm).
