Lewis McGugan signs permanent Sheffield Wednesday deal

16 July 2015

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the permanent capture of midfielder Lewis McGugan from Premier League side Watford for an undisclosed fee.

The former Owls loanee, who shone during two separate loan spells with Wednesday in 2014/15, has signed a three-year contract at Hillsborough.

McGugan made 22 appearances last season for the Owls and scored three goals along the way.

His impressive and composed performances during his loan stints saw the midfielder’s popularity rise through the S6 roof.

As a result, the 26-year-old was voted the swfc.co.uk February and March Player of the Month.

Noted as a set piece specialist, McGugan showed his credentials on numerous occasions from dead ball situations with a wicked delivery and eye for goal; scoring with free kicks against Derby and Blackpool.

His classy style gave the Owls an extra dimension and his arrival back at Hillsborough will no doubt prove popular with Wednesdayites.

The midfield ace, who has bags of experience at Championship level with Nottingham Forest and Watford, will significantly strengthen Wednesday’s engine room ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
