Liam Palmer next in line?

7 October 2014

  • Stevie May away on international duty
  • Owls boss says Liam Palmer could be next
  • Palmer has eight caps for Scotland Under-21s

With Stevie May having broken into the full Scotland squad, Owls head coach Stuart Gray says Liam Palmer could be next in line.

May is currently away on international duty for the Scots, who face Georgia and Poland in back to back European Championship qualifiers.

And Gray believes team mate Palmer is knocking on the door:

“Liam has played for the Scotland Under-21s so I think he is trying to get into the Scotland squad.

“He’s very versatile and can wear several hats.

“Hopefully Gordon Strachan might have seen Liam at right back and in midfield and see what he can give.”

Palmer has been equally adept this season at right back or midfield for the Owls, playing in every game in all competitions.

Now firmly established in the team, Palmer’s next step is to appear on the scoresheet, according to Gray.

He added: “He just plays with enthusiasm and is totally committed no matter where I ask him to play.

“Liam now needs to know what that feeling is of scoring a goal.

“He’s created several goals for us and now I want to see his goal celebration!”
