Loovens relishing derby day

3 October 2014

Skipper Glenn Loovens has said the occasion on Saturday at Elland Road is one to look forward to for the players and fans.

Wednesday go head to head with Leeds in tomorrow’s lunchtime kick off and the captain says these type of games are to be relished.

“It’s a big game and I think the players are looking forward to it as much as the supporters,” he said.

“These type of games are the reason you play football. You want to play in the big games and this is a big game.

“We should relish the occasion and go there looking for the win.”

New Leeds boss Darko Milanic is searching for his first victory since taking charge at Elland Road at the end of September.

The Whites lost 2-0 at Brentford in Milanic’s first game but picked up a point in midweek at home to Reading.

Loovens continued: “They are a good side and we have to be up for this one and knowing this group of players, I’m sure we will.

“As soon as the whistle goes you forget everything else, the occasion, TV cameras and you just focus on your job.

“We have been doing that all season and I’m confident we’ll do the same against Leeds.

“We have drawn and lost our last two games and I think it’s important that we head into the international break on the back of a win.”
