Maghoma hits brace as Development Squad defeat Coventry

16 December 2014

  • Owls defeat Coventry 3-1
  • Jacques Maghoma hits first half brace
  • Mani Dieseruvwe adds a third after the break

The Owls Under-21s posted an accomplished victory over Coventry on Tuesday afternoon at Middlewood Road.

A Jacques Maghoma first half brace put Wednesday in the driving seat before former Owl Marcus Tudgay halved the deficit after the break.

Mani Dieseruvwe’s purple patch in front of goal continued as the striker fired past City keeper Lee Burge to regain the Owls’ two-goal cushion and seal the win.

Wednesday started the game strongly and the visitors struggled to deal with the pace and power of Maghoma, who broke the deadlock on 22 minutes.

Dieseruvwe squared for the forward, who worked a yard of space in front of goal and slotted into the bottom corner.

The same man threatened a quickfire second goal but hit over the top after a marauding 40-yard run.

But ten minutes later, Maghoma doubled his tally after playing a neat one-two with Paul Corry before applying a calm finish to send the Owls 2-0 up.

Just past the hour mark, Tudgay calmly stroked the ball past Cameron Dawson when the ball broke kindly from 18 yards.

That goal sparked Wednesday into life, and the hosts regained their lead through Dieseruvwe.

The striker picked up possession, charged towards goal and blasted low into the net to bag his fifth goal in four games.

Owls: Dawson, Young, Floro, Dielna, De Havilland (Nicholson 87), Sanders (Meadows 65), Croasdale, Corry, Dieseruvwe, Hanna, Maghoma

Unused substitutes: Conneh, Smith
