McPhail signs

19 September 2013

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Stephen McPhail on a free transfer.

The midfield playmaker has put pen to paper on an S6 deal that runs until mid-January 2014.

Free agent McPhail began his career with Leeds in 1997 and went on to make 78 senior appearances for the Whites, scoring three goals.

Following loan spells with Millwall and Nottingham Forest, the 33-year-old moved to Barnsley in 2004, making 73 appearances and posting four goals for the Tykes.

In 2006, McPhail switched to Cardiff under current Owls boss Dave Jones and enjoyed a fruitful spell in the Welsh capital, playing 190 games, finding the net three times, and becoming a firm fans’ favourite.

The midfield man, who left Cardiff last summer, is also a full international with the Republic of Ireland having stored ten caps.

McPhail has been allocated shirt number 27 at Hillsborough.
