NCS students head to the Lake District

19 March 2015

Almost 100 young people have taken part in a Community Programme led project that saw them travel to the Lake District to strengthen leadership, teamwork and communication skills.

The participants, aged 15-17, who are taking part in the National Citizen Service Programme, facilitated by the club’s Community Programme, study at Hillsborough College and this week saw them take part in an activities week to broaden personal skills.

The group travelled to Langdale in the Lake District and as well as taking part in outdoor activities like kayaking and gorge scrambling the students took part in self development activities to build up communication skills and learn about the local community.

Owls players Liam Palmer and Glenn Loovens are ambassadors of the project and have met some of the young people who have taken part in the project so far.

Zoe Blythe, Assistant NCS Coordinator, said: “It’s been a privilege to work with such a fantastic group of young people from Hillsborough College. They have worked really hard and achieved so much throughout the NCS project. Well done to all involved!”

NCS is a government-funded youth programme designed to bring together young people from a wide range of backgrounds and teach them how to communicate and work together as a team whilst contributing to their local community.
