Nothing but praise

Owls coach Lee Bullen was full of praise after the Under-21s produced a terrific performance to defeat Chesterfield 4-1.

Against experienced opposition, the Owls youngsters turned on the style at Middlewood Road.

Goals from Caolan Lavery (2) and Mani Dieseruvwe (2) saw Wednesday come out on top in the friendly.

Bullen said: “I’m really, really pleased with the performance.

“We had a ten minute sticky spell where we stopped playing the simple ball but other than that, against an experienced group of players, I thought we were absolutely fantastic.

“That’s the type of performance that gets the younger boys the opportunity to go out on loan.

“The goals were fantastic and the trust they had in their own and team mates’ ability was evident today.

“We moved the ball about, rotated positions really well. I’m really pleased after that one.”

For Lavery, the striker has been boosted by his brace against the Spireites.

The forward made his return last week for the Under-21s against Middlesbrough and played the full 90 minutes today, scoring with a powerful header and from the penalty spot.

“It’s brilliant for Caolan to get 90 minute under his belt,” Bullen added. “As a striker, the goals will be a big boost for him.

“It was good to see both strikers on the score sheet, with big Mani getting his two goals as well.

“I thought Paul Corry was phenomenal in the middle of the park, young Jack Stobbs has produced two or three magnificent crosses that we have got a couple of goals from.

“Ryan Croasdale did the discipline side of the game that allows his team mates to play and Cameron Dawson made a fantastic save at 1-1.

“I could go round every single player and pick out positives.”
