Now is a new championship

12 May 2016

Carlos Carvalhal has likened the play-offs to a brand new championship.

For the head coach, a line has been drawn under what was a successful Sky Bet Championship campaign for the Owls.

Having achieved a place in the coveted top six, Carlos says we now start afresh in a competition between four teams with one goal in mind – to reach the Premier League.

First up is Friday evening’s clash with Brighton in the first semi final.

“Everything that happened in the past is not important,” he said.

“Now is a new championship, so it is important to talk about us as we are in this moment.

“We are in the play-offs, in the semi finals. I think the four teams have 25% chance to go to the Premier League and of course in the next game, in the final it will be 50-50.

“The value of the teams are similar, in our opinion. We are very positive at this moment, very positive.

“If you remember our big challenge in the Championship was against Cardiff, we went into the play-offs after that game.

“The LMA chose us as the best Performance of the Week out of every game. This is a good to us and good to the club. We need the fans to do even better and the players will give the answers.”

Ahead of the crucial first leg – which has now completely sold out to Wednesday supporters – the Owls have reported good news on the injury front and the shape of the squad in general.

“At the beginning of the week we had small problem with Nuhiu but now he is completely ready to the game and 100% fit.

“We are positive, in good shape, we are optimists, we are smiling but at the same time know the responsibilities we have.

“We have worked a lot to achieve this moment and it’s a big opportunity to me and my players and we want to grab this opportunity with both hands.”
