Wigan boss Malky Mackay and midfielder Chris McCann have both said the Latics will arrive at Hillsborough in a positive frame of mind despite their current run.
The Lancashire side slipped to 23rd following their draw with Middlesbrough last weekend and the immediate aim for new boss Mackay is to steer his side away from the drop zone.
He said: “We go there with a job to do and we’re fully focused on trying to win the game.
“Number one, we’re away from home and Hillsborough is going to be a tough place to go.
“Their record tells you that they are a very hard-working, strong and a well-organised unit so that’s something that we’ve got to try and make sure we break down and then stand up to when they come at us.”
Midfield man McCann says the squad were boosted by the point and performance from the Middlesbrough clash last weekend.
The draw saw the Latics remain in the bottom three, but for McCann, the display against in-form Boro showed plenty of promise for the rest of the season.
“When you look at the table, it was third from the bottom against third from top, and you wouldn’t have thought that was the case if you were watching the game.
“If that’s how we’re going to play every week, then I don’t think we’ll have any problems.
“Sheffield Wednesday is never an easy place to go to but we’ll take the positives, discuss the Middlesbrough game and go there confident.”
