Our luck will turn

23 November 2014

  • Glenn Loovens confident the goals will come
  • Skipper pleased with eleventh clean sheet
  • Owls have conceded just six goals on the road this season

Skipper Glenn Loovens has bemoaned the Owls’ luck on Saturday against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield.

Wednesday drew a blank at The John Smith’s Stadium but could hardly have gone closer, having hit the crossbar, post, had chances cleared off the line and a penalty appeal denied.

But despite that misfortune in the final third, Loovens is confident things will click in that department.

“We created good opportunities to get ourselves in front,” the captain said.

“We’ve had shots cleared off the line, we hit the bar, hit the post and I think we should have had a penalty. We should have taken the points.

“I have to pay compliment to the guys because they never stopped, our luck has to turn eventually.

“We need to keep plugging away, keep putting a shift in and I’m sure our luck will change.”

On a positive note, the Owls achieved their eleventh clean sheet of the campaign and showed yet again why the club boast one of the best defensive records in the Championship.

Away from home, Wednesday have conceded just six goals in nine games and on that front, Loovens couldn’t be happier.

“It’s going well defensively. We are defending well as a team and when teams do get a chance, we have one of the best goalkeepers.

“We keep getting clean sheets and that always gives you a chance to win a game.

“We’re lacking luck without a doubt at the moment, we have quality strikers here but sometimes you need that bit of luck.

“We should be confident, we don’t get beaten often but we have to start scoring, I’m sure it will come and it has to happen from the next home game.

“Maybe all we need is a scrappy win to get us going.”
