The Owls suffered a 2-0 defeat on Saturday against Leicester at Hillsborough.

Goals either side of half time by Daniel Drinkwater and erstwhile Owls loanee Ben Marshall ensured the visitors of the three points.

Drinkwater struck first with a crisp finish from close range moments before the half time interval.

And Marshall, in his first game back at Hillsborough since his loan spell with Wednesday last season, rounded off a strong performance with a well-placed strike 15 minutes from time.

Dave Jones opted to give loan duo Mamady Sidibe and Jeremy Helan a place in the starting XI against the Foxes.

Leicester arrived in S6 fresh on the back of their 6-0 thumping of Ipswich last week but the first sight of goal fell to the Owls after ten minutes.

Midfield man Rhys McCabe fed a cutting ball into the path of Jay Bothroyd, whose strike was blocked out by a fine challenge from defender Zak Whitbread.

Marshall then tested Chris Kirkland with a low hit but failed to trouble the former Liverpool goalkeeper from outside the area.

Recalled skipper Martin Taylor made a crucial last-ditch challenge to prevent Jamie Vardy from a one-on-one chance at goal.

The Foxes, who went into the game six points from the top of the table, began to enjoy useful periods of possession as the game approached the half-hour mark.

But the visitors were almost undone just before the break when full back Ritchie De Laet over hit a backpass to Kasper Schmeichel and the goalkeeper’s clearance just made it past Michail Antonio, who was applying the pressure.

Still there was time for the opening goal of the game before the interval when Drinkwater drilled a low strike past Kirkland.

Marshall picked out the defender inside the area and the Manchester United youth product gave Kirkland no chance with a thunderous finish inside the six yard box.

Wednesday almost levelled on the stroke of half time when Jermaine Johnson lofted a high ball into the box that Schmeichel misjudged but there was an abundance of Foxes defenders on hand to mop up the danger.

Marshall came within a whisker of adding to Leicester’s lead when the midfielder headed over the bar from a corner before Martyn Waghorn saw his rasping drive tipped over the bar by Kirkland.

Wednesday were showing signs of revival with 20 minutes to go as Antonio chipped a clever ball over to the back stick where Gary Madine was waiting to pounce but the striker was denied by an important header by Whitbread, who put behind for a corner.

Things took a drastic turn for the worse 15 minutes from time when Marshall put the Foxes in a commanding position.

The ball fell to the ex-Owl outside the area and Marshall produced an accurate finish into the Leppings Lane net as Wednesday slipped to their fifth home loss of the campaign.
