Owls help raise £1400 for Armed Forces charity

26 November 2014

Sheffield Wednesday fans have helped raise more than £1,400 for The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal after the club’s dedicated game against Rotherham.

Along with our friends from Rotherham United, the Owls played a part in marking the 100th anniversary of the First World War in 1914 through a range of activity in and around the ground.

The club dedicated the front cover of the matchday programme to the occasion and completely sold out, with almost 5,000 copies flying off the stands.

The programme also raised £165 in a special charity auction with all funds raised going to The Royal British Legion.

To mark the respect, both clubs conducted a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off, during which bugler John Harrison played ‘The Last Post’.

The matchball was placed on the centre spot by a member of the Armed Forces and 60 Sea Cadets walked around the pitch at half time.

The cadets also conducted a guard of honour to welcome the teams onto the pitch.

Sheffield Wednesday and The Royal British Legion would like to say thank you to Owls fans for their incredible support!
