Owls high on confidence, says goal hero Hooper

1 May 2016

Gary Hooper produced one of his best performances for Wednesday in perhaps the most crucial fixture of the campaign so far on Saturday.

In a game where the Owls needed to avoid defeat against Cardiff to secure a play-off spot, Hooper was a thorn in the side of the Bluebirds from start to finish.

Having come within a whisker of breaking the deadlock in the first half when his low strike crashed against the post, Hooper had a hand in all three goals after the break – scoring two and he said:

“I thought from start to finish we were on top and played really well.

“We were due one of those performances, we got a good point at Derby and kicked on and deserved the three points.

“To score two goals was nice, we always create chances and they just need putting away. Now we face Wolves and then we’re into the play-offs.”

With opponents and schedules still to be decided in the end of season play-offs, Hooper says the Owls will head into them with no fear, and explained:

“Everyone will look at us after that performances and if we play our game, then on our day we can defeat anyone.

“We create chances, we keep clean sheets and we can give anyone a game.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time here, it’s nice playing football again, training is good and it shows on the pitch.”
