Owls players hailed for community commitment

18 May 2015

Throughout the 2014/15 season, Sheffield Wednesday players dedicated themselves to helping in the local area to assist the club in delivering excellent community work.

From visiting local hospitals to joining in with local fun days and attending awards events, the season has seen our players get involved with the Sheffield and surrounding areas to help benefit the community work in which the club engages.

Working alongside the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme, the Owls regularly partner with local organisations, big and small, to provide the best quality player support possible.

Community highlights included Jeremy Helan visiting a local Street Games session to share his expertise with local teenagers. French-born Helan also visited Ecclesfield School to talk about playing football in a foreign country. Jeremy also attended the club’s Show Racism the Red Card event.

Over the season, the whole squad showed their commitment to a range of charities, including the Football League’s Official Charity Partner, Prostate Cancer UK, by wearing specially made t-shirts during the warm-up ahead of Championship fixtures at Hillsborough.

Other visits have included:

Tom Lees and Joe Mattock showing their support for Comic Relief at Burrows Sheffield in March this year.

Glenn Loovens and Liam Palmer becoming ambassadors for the National Citizenship Service (NCS)

Most recently, Jose Semedo visiting a fan’s house to have a chat and kickabout in their garden after the family entered a competition on the club’s official Instagram account.

Other appearances have included visits to the Community Programme’s Soccer Camps, Megastore signings, Owls in the Park meet and greets and much more.
