The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme’s summer soccer camp is set to put aspiring footballers through their paces as they become army recruits for the day!

As part of their annual Football League roadshow the British Army are tomorrow (Tuesday 5 August) visiting the club’s community programme’s soccer camp to put the children through exercises that mimic real army drills.

Army instructors will guide the kids, who are aged 5 – 12 years-old, through a fun football assault course which includes a football grenade range, inflatable pitch and obstacle course.

The army course will be at the club’s training ground at Middlewood Road and will then move to Hillsborough Park in the afternoon, 2:30 – 4:30pm, which will be open to the public.

Sergeant Dave Tuck from the 244 Signal Squadron, said: “The aim of the roadshow is to forge closer links between the army and professional football clubs and their communities. This is the second year we have visited Sheffield Wednesday and appreciate the club’s hospitality.”

Matt Bray, Social Inclusion Manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for the community programme and the soccer camps and we appreciate the army taking their time out to come and train with the children.

“It’ll give the kids something different to do whilst on the soccer camp and it should be a great day for everyone involved.”
