Owls striker chomping at the bit

  • Striker says he is 'chomping at the bit'
  • Atdhe Nuhiu and Stevie May praised by the 24-year-old

Gary Madine has his sights set on a place in the Owls’ starting 11.

The striker is working hard behind the scenes in order to push his team mates all the way for a regular starting shirt.

The 24-year-old said: “I would like to start more games as it is tough coming off the bench.

"I'm chomping at the bit to start more matches and hopefully, when I get my chance, I will take it.

"I put myself about against Leeds so hopefully that's in the back of the gaffer's head now and he's got a decision to make."

Madine has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, three in the League Cup from the start and the rest from the bench in the Sky Bet Championship.

The forward knows he faces stiff competition for a starting berth with Atdhe Nuhiu and Stevie May currently holding on to their shirts.

Madine continued: “I can't grumble at not playing a lot because Atdhe has been very good. At times he’s been unplayable.

"Stevie May's movement is second to none and that's why he's got a deserved call-up to Scotland.

“But I think we have all been very good. The boys are working hard for each other. We have all got a lot of respect for the gaffer and want to do well for him.

"We drew with Millwall in the last minute when maybe we should have held on. We should have beaten Bolton. There is an extra four points which would have put us right up in the mix.

"I don't see why we can't be right up there. There is plenty more to come from us.”
