The Owls posted a point in a goalless draw against Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday.
Dave Jones’ side controlled much of the game in West Yorkshire but had to settle for a point from the derby clash.
Incidentally, the 0-0 stalemate was the Owls’ fourth consecutive clean sheet on the spin.
Wednesday went into the Yorkshire derby buoyed by three consecutive league victories but by contrast, Huddersfield were without a win in eight and without a home win since early November.
After a relatively even opening ten minutes it was Wednesday who conjured the first meaningful threat on goal through Jeremy Helan.
The Manchester City loanee latched onto a loose ball and raced through on goal, forcing a crucial save from Alex Smithies with his feet.
The same man quickly regained possession for the Owls and darted into the area before tumbling under a challenge from Jack Hunt but received a yellow card for simulation.
Wednesday had stamped their authority on the game at the quarter-hour mark and went close to making their pressure count by breaking the deadlock.
First, David Prutton struck a sweet half volley from outside the area which Smithies could only parry into the path of Gary Madine, but the Terriers keeper was up quickly to put the rebound behind for a corner.
There seemed slight confusion midway through the first period when the referee appeared to issue Helan with his second yellow card for a foul on Adam Hammill, but no red card followed and play continued.
Still Wednesday remained in the ascendancy as Kieran Lee fired his shot over the crossbar from out on the right as the interval fast approached.
Right on the half time whistle, the home side got their first sight of goal when Simon Church controlled eight yards from goal but Chris Kirkland made a fine stop from close range.
Wednesday were straight back on the front foot after the break as Michail Antonio dragged his shot wide of Smithies’ goal.
And Antonio was at the heart of the Owls’ next attack on 55 minutes when the ex Reading man battled his way into the area but put too much power on his centre for Madine, who couldn’t quite connect at the back stick.
There were signs that Huddersfield were beginning to battle their way into the game as the home crowd became more vocal, sensing more urgency in the Terriers’ play.
Miguel Llera almost managed to connect with Rhys McCabe’s corner as the game seemed destined to finish with both sides sharing the spoils.
Mamady Sidibe then blasted just over the bar from 20 yards – a shot close enough to send Smithies diving athletically to his right hand upright.
Right at the death from another McCabe corner, Smithies made a key save from a Sidibe header to prevent Wednesday leaving with three points.
Huddersfield, though, almost had the final say when substitute James Vaughan went through on goal but scuffed his half volley wide, as sections of the Terriers fans thought the ball had hit the back of the net.
