Palmer praised by Owls boss

19 September 2014

  • Competition for places benefiting the squad
  • Liam Palmer praised by Stuart Gray
  • Lewis Buxton back from injury

Head coach Stuart Gray believes the high level of competition at the club is benefiting every squad member and has highlighted Liam Palmer as a prime example.

The 23-year-old has featured in every game so far this season for the Owls and now faces strong competition from returning full back Lewis Buxton.

The experienced defender has recovered from a knee injury and is now in contention to make his comeback.

Gray said: “Lewis has become available for selection and we’ve seen Liam kick-on again and that’s what competition does for you.”

Palmer has been part of an Owls defensive unit that has kept six clean sheets from nine games this season.

Also able to play in midfield, the SWFC academy product provides Wednesday with further options as Gray explained:

“Credit to Liam because he is one of those player who can wear several hats for us which is always a huge plus.

“Wherever I put him, he will give everything. I felt at Birmingham he grew into the game in the second half and forced their widemen back.

“He’s got his strengths and weaknesses and we’re working with him every day.

“But one thing is for sure, he is keeping a very good player out of the team in Lewis Buxton.”
