Pearson and Madden back walking football

23 June 2015

Former Owls stars Lawrie Madden and John Pearson took part in a different kind of football session to help promote the club’s Community Programme’s walking football project.

The initiative, ‘Walking Football’, is designed to help people keep active and is aimed at getting those back to playing football who had to stop due to injury.

The former players went along to the session last Tuesday at Concord Sports Centre.

Walking football is non-contact and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs whilst the ball is in play is penalised with a free-kick awarded to the other team.

Working in partnership with Sheffield International Venues and the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA, new players will have the opportunity to play walking football for the club’s Community Programme.

The Owls team will represent the club in the Football League’s regional competition at the end of June at Doncaster FC with the winning team playing at St. George’s Park.

The Community Programme are also planning on playing Sheffield United’s Community Foundation walking football team later this year.

Weekly sessions – Tuesdays:

•    1.30 - 2.30pm Concord Sport Centre

•    5:00 – 6:00pm Springs Leisure Centre
