Royston Drenthe buzzing for Sheffield Wednesday

3 September 2014

  • Royston Drenthe joined the Owls on loan
  • Dutch international winger keen to impress
  • Ex-Real Madrid man eligible for Boltonclash

New recruit Royston Drenthe has told swfc.co.uk of his desire to make a positive impression at Hillsborough.

The wing star signed for the Owls on loan from Reading this week and had no hesitation in affirming his S6 ambitions:

“I cannot wait to start because I need to be playing football.

“Everyone at Reading has been great with me but I am a footballer who needs to be playing games.

“As soon as I was told of the interest from Sheffield Wednesday, my reaction was ‘get me there’ because this is such a great club and one that I think is going places.

“The chairman was really good to me and as soon as I spoke to the gaffer, I knew Sheffield Wednesday was the place I wanted to be.”

The Dutch international brings some serious pedigree to S6 having played for the likes of Feyenoord, Real Madrid and Everton.

And Drenthe is now keen to do the business at Hillsborough as he adds the Owls to his CV.

He added: “I can throw all kinds of top names in football who I have played with but it doesn’t matter because that is in the past.

“Sheffield Wednesday fans want to see what Royston Drenthe can do now, not what he did for his previous clubs.

“What they will see is a player who is good one v one, I will get the ball and cross the ball for my team mates.

“I can play behind the strikers, on the left wing or the right wing, but I will play wherever the manager wants me to play because I am a team player.”
