Semedo battling back

22 November 2013

Wednesday midfielder Jose Semedo is battling hard to regain his place in the squad ahead of this weekend’s S6 clash with Huddersfield.

The 28-year-old has had to watch from the sidelines during the Owls’ last three Championship fixtures due to suspension but is fired up and ready for action this weekend.

Semedo had impressed prior to his red card at Bolton last month after hitting a good run of form and is keen to pick up where he left off this weekend.

He said: “To be honest, I have missed the whole Saturday experience. I’ve played a few reserve games and friendlies, but it’s nothing like a real Saturday game.

“As soon as I saw that red card, that’s what went through my head - that I’d miss some games.

“It’s hard when you’re not involved - I miss being in the changing room, and even stuff like going out for the warm up.

“I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and put things right.”

Elsewhere, Semedo was delighted to watch his home nation Portugal book their place at the World Cup next summer in Brazil.

The Owls ace has spoken of his conversation with close friend and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the game – who once again made the headlines with an outstanding hat trick against Sweden.

The unstoppable Galactico hit an impressive treble in the World Cup qualifier to send his goal tally up to 31 this season from just 21 games.

Semedo added: “I spoke to Cristiano before the game, and wished him luck.

“I said to him, ‘God bless you’. But he promised me that there was no way Portugal could lose.

“‘I am ready to take Portugal to the World Cup’, he said. And was true to his word!

“The guy is truly the best player on the planet, but also a great guy.”
