  • More than £1,000 raised
  • Sheffield Wednesday continue relationship with charity

Sheffield Wednesday have celebrated a charity match that raised more than £1,000 for a leading Sheffield Hospital.

Last season, Sheffield Wednesday’s Community Programme, hosted a charity match that saw staff from the Keepmoat Group and the club’s Community Programme take to the pitch to raise £1,561 for local organisation, The Children’s Hospital Charity.

The charity supports The Children’s Hospital in Sheffield in providing over and above the standard NHS provision, enhancing the hospital and matching world class equipment with existing world class expertise.

The charity’s ‘Make it Better’ appeal was launched in 2012 in a bid to raise £10m regionally to transform The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield into a centre with world class facilities to match the world class care already provided.

David Vernon-Edwards, Director at the charity, said: “The match was a great event and everyone involved had a great time. It was fantastic that the two teams could come together to raise vital funds and awareness for the charity.

“The support of the local community is vital to our hospital and through events like the charity game we are able to ‘Make it Better’ for thousands of young children and their families.

David added: “We are so grateful to Sheffield Wednesday for their support and we look forward to working together more in the future.”

Marcus Brameld, Community Manager at Sheffield Wednesday said: “The match was a great way to raise awareness for the charity and we’re pleased we were able to assist in helping the charity towards their goal of transforming The Children’s Hospital.

“The Children’s Hospital Charity is a great organisation in Sheffield and the club are more than happy to keep working with them on future campaigns.”

The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme operates throughout South Yorkshire and covers four key themes; social inclusion, education, health and well-being.

As well as creating a brand new building complete with a spacious outpatients department, three brand new wards and a basement car park, the appeal will fund the creation of safe and secure outdoor landscaped areas, including a sensory garden.
