Sheffield Wednesday reveal player list

6 May 2014

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Stuart Gray has confirmed that talks regarding new contract offers to two current Owls players will begin following the conclusion of the 2013/14 campaign.

The club will open dialogue with the representatives of goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and midfielder Jose Semedo, both of whom are approaching the end of their current contracts.

Glenn Loovens and Oguchi Onyewu signed short term deals in the latter part of the season and Wednesday will also open talks with their representatives over potential extensions.

The remaining players shortly out of contract will be released, with the list reading as Adam Davies, Arron Jameson, Reda Johnson, Anthony Gardner, Miguel Llera, Martin Taylor, Jermaine Johnson and David Prutton.

Five loan players have each returned to their parent clubs – Damian Martinez, Sam Hutchinson, Benik Afobe, Leon Best and Andelko Savic.

The club would like to thank the eight players released and those who joined on loan for their services and wish them well for the future.

Gray told swfc.co.uk: “These decisions are never easy but they are part and parcel of football.

“There is no sleight on the players I will be letting go because they are great professionals who have always gone about their business in the right and thoroughly professional manner.

“But every manager in the country has his own ideas over how he wants his squad to look moving forward and I am no different.

“I am sure the released players will have no problem whatsoever in gaining new clubs. I would like to thank them all for their support and service to Sheffield Wednesday and wish them the very best of luck for the future.”
