Sky Bet Football League crowds on the up!

23 May 2015

The number of people watching matches in the Sky Bet Football League increased by 615,685 during the 2014/15 season, a four per cent increase on the previous year.

It is the 12th consecutive season that crowds have topped the 15-million mark.

In total, more than 16.3m fans passed through the turnstiles at league matches played in the Sky Bet Championship, League 1 and League 2 in 2014/15 as The Football League continues to enjoy sustained long-term attendance growth.

In the 28 years since the introduction of the play-offs, gates for Football League matches have more than doubled.

Crowds for matches in the Sky Bet Championship increased by more than seven per cent representing an extra 1,228 fans at each of the 552 matches played with the average attendance reaching 17,847.

As leagues across Europe reach their climax this weekend, the Sky Bet Championship looks set to retain its place as the fourth most-watched league on the continent with a total audience of nearly 10 million fans.

Only the Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga and Spain’s Primera Liga are expected to have had more fans in attendance.

The Owls are now well into the second phase of Season Ticket sales and Wednesdayites still have time to snap up their seat at Hillsborough for the 2015/16 campaign.

Prices are guaranteed to be cheaper than watching Wednesday on a match by match basis – and you can spread that cost over six or ten months.
