- Community Programme soccer camps massive success

This summer saw hundreds of children aged 5-14 attend Sheffield Wednesday’s Soccer Camps – a great success for the club’s Community Programme!
The camps, facilitated by the club’s Community Programme, ran for the duration of the six-week summer holidays at Middlewood Road and Retford Oaks High School.
Owls players Giles Coke, Adthe Nuhiu and Glenn Loovens visited the young players and took part in a question and answer session, which added that little bit extra to the attendees’ day.
The sessions were overseen by expert coaching staff from the Community Programme and taught children, both boys and girls, aged five to 14 how to develop skills, technique and standard of play.
The camps, which have now been going for a number of years, serve as a productive way for children to to gain confidence in the game whilst also allowing the aspiring footballers to make new friends and build independence.
Steve Taylor, Community Development Officer, said: “The camps have been a huge success so far this year and it’s great to see the children enjoy themselves whilst playing and improving their game.
“It was really pleasing to have the Wednesday players visit the children and take time to answer the children’s questions. The players are their role models so it just adds something special to their experience.”
The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme are now preparing for their October half term camps and are looking forward to welcoming even more children to learn new skills and develop their football.
