SWFC took respect to the next level

25 October 2014

Over six years ago on 4 May 2008, the curtain drew on Dion Dublin’s illustrious career in football at Hillsborough.

Having famously played for Manchester United, Coventry City and Aston Villa to name but a few, Dublin headed back to where his career began at youth team level with Norwich in 2006.

Heading into the Hillsborough clash on the final game of the campaign, the Owls needed victory over Norwich to maintain Championship status.

In front of 36,208 supporters, Wednesday stayed up in style with a 4-1 victory but there was a special moment for Dublin, who was substituted on 66 minutes.

All four stands at Hillsborough were on their feet to pay tribute to the former England international who had hung up his boots after a 22-year playing career.

Ahead of Saturday’s game between the Owls and Norwich, Dublin said on his personal twitter account:

“I never ever expected in my 22 year career to get a standing ovation from any away fans.....BUT @swfc took respect to the next level #THANKU.”
