Taking my chance

  • Jeremy Helan pleased with midweek performance
  • The Frenchman made first league start of the season on Tuesday
  • Stuart Gray praises Helan contribution

Having started his first league game of the campaign on Tuesday at Brentford, Jeremy Helan has reflected positively on his contribution to the game.

Armed with blistering pace, Helan was a menace for the Owls at Griffin Park.

Such was his impact in the first half in particular, head coach Stuart Gray took a moment post-match to praise Helan and said: “I thought Jeremy dominated down the left and got into some great areas.”

The Frenchman exclusively told swfc.co.uk: “I wanted to take my chance to show what I can do. I appreciated the chance to start and play, it was a great feeling.

“That was my first start in the league this season and I really wanted to show that I can do a job for the team and what I have to offer.”

The former Manchester City man was a threat going forward but given the versatile nature of the 22-year-old, his defensive attributes also shone through in West London.

He added: “I really believe we should all take a lot of credit from the game.

“After the game against Watford, we needed some confidence and to take at least a point from Tuesday and I think we did very well.

“As a team we deserved something from the game. I think I played well and had a good game but without my team mates that could not have happened. It was about the team and as a team we did very, very well.”
