Tom Lees aims for Christmas lift

  • Christmas period is crucial says defender
  • Lees was crowned Player of the Month for November

November’s Player of the Month Tom Lees is targeting a return to the top half of the Championship with a good run over the festive period.

After making a return to winning ways, the defender wants the victory over Wigan to provide a springboard for the Owls over the coming weeks.

“The Christmas period is really important,” he said.

“We have to cement ourselves in that top half over the next month.

“We will feel a lot happier if we come into January knowing we are in the top half having played everyone at least once.”

Wednesday were boosted by that welcomed home win on Saturday but are back on the road this weekend.

The Owls have been resilient away from home this term, with just one defeat in nine and next up is a trip to Blackburn.

He added: “Hopefully that win is a turning point for us. We have been working hard during this patch where we have not been winning games.

“Sometimes you play better and don’t win. We need keep working hard and have got to try and make it multiple wins.”

“It is very tight in this league. We have seen some big teams, like Norwich and Wolves, who were flying a month or so ago, hit bad patches so things can change in a matter of games.”
