Tom Lees: 'We'll take the point'

  • Tom Lees happy with Leeds point
  • Ex-United man made first return to Elland Road
  • Owls in strong position, says defender

Owls defender Tom Lees was happy with the point at Elland Road on Saturday as Wednesday drew 1-1 with Leeds.

The commanding stopper returned to face his former employers in the televised lunchtime kick-off.

Although disappointed with aspects of the performance, Lees believes a draw was a good result heading into the international break.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It was a close fought game and both teams had good chances.

“We had to keep our defensive shape tight and really dig in at times.

“We didn’t really get going until the last 15 minutes and I think we have played much better football this season than we showed today.

“We feel we haven’t done ourselves justice but Leeds are a good side and we’ll take a point here.”

The defender, who was with Leeds from the age of eight and rose through the club’s academy system, said it was strange to go back to Elland Road as part of the visiting squad.

He added: “It was very strange, I nearly ran over to the wrong side to warm up! But it’s nice to come back and see a few familiar faces.

“There aren’t too many left but the ones that are, it was good to see them.

“Now we go into the international break in a good position and we’ll make sure we’re ready for when that’s over.”
