Tom Lees wins top Owls accolade

2 December 2014

Owls defender Tom Lees has scooped the swfc.co.uk ‘Player of the Month’ award after his outstanding performance over the season and in particular, the last month.

The accolade, voted for by Sheffield Wednesday fans, awards the player who has had the most impressive form over the calendar month.

The centre back, who joined the Owls in July from Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, has made an almost seamless start to his Wednesday career, adding to one of the strongest defensive sides in the Championship.

The 24-year-old told swfc.co.uk: “It’s an absolute pleasure to win the award and I’m really grateful to everyone who voted for me! It’s a great start to the week to hear that I’ve won – especially after winning against Wigan at the weekend!

“It was great for the boys to get a much earned win on Saturday and I hope it will give us the positivity we need to go on a better run for the second half of the season.”

Tom beat off two time Player of the Month winner Keiren Westwood by just over one per cent, showing how much the competition has stepped up over the last month.

Tom added: “On a more personal level, I want to say thank you to all the fans, not just for this award but for their incredible support week on week.”
