- Owls defeat Chesterfield 4-1
- Goals from Caolan Lavery (2) and Mani Dieseruvwe (2)
- Jack Stobbs plays a part in the impressive win
The Owls Under-21s impressed on Tuesday morning with a 4-1 win over Chesterfield at Middlewood Road.
Two goals from Mani Dieseruvwe and Caolan Lavery earned the Owls the victory, with Romuald Boco’s first half strike proving just a consolation.
Wednesday edged in front after five minutes through Dieseruvwe, who volleyed home from Rhys McCabe’s centre.
As Chesterfield sought a way back, Cameron Dawson was called into action on 12 minutes tipping over the top from Dan Gardner’s firm drive.
Dieseruvwe was a handful for the Spireites in the opening period and almost added to his tally in spectacular fashion but his dipping volley from distance flew just wide.
Midway through the first half, Boco drew the visitors level after nearly clipping over Dawson on the angle.
Lavery restored the Owls advantage with a powerful header from Jack Stobbs’ cross and the same man made it 3-1 and effectively game over after calmly tucking home from the penalty spot.
To add extra gloss, Dieseruvwe finished a fine flowing move in the late stages to make it 4-1.
Paul Corry’s precision pass found Stobbs out wide, who delivered a superb ball for the towering striker to nod home.
