Under-21s: Owls 0-2 Blues

26 October 2015

The Owls Under-21s succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City on Monday afternoon at Middlewood Road.

The first half became increasingly frustrating for Wednesday, who came close to breaking the deadlock early in the contest.

Luke Booker whipped in a dangerous centre from the right but Jack Stobbs and Ryan Croasdale couldn’t quite scramble the ball over the line.

Having controlled large parts of the first half without getting the breakthrough, the Owls were hit with a sucker punch on the stroke of half time.

Reece Brown fired home a ferocious free kick from 25 yards that arrowed into the top corner, leaving Brad McDonagh no chance in the Owls’ goal.

Wednesday were punished for not taking their chances after the break as Koby Arthur gave the hosts a cushion ten minutes from time.

The Blues midfielder converted from Nicolai Brock-Madsen’s cross to put the game out of the Owls’ reach.

The Under-21s are next in action on Monday away at Nottingham Forest (1.00pm). Supporters who follow the Owls’ Development Squad should also note that the home fixture with Crewe has been put back by five days.

The league meeting was due to take place on Thursday 12 November but will now kick-off at 1.00pm on Tuesday 17 November at Hillsborough.

Owls: McDonagh, Booker, Wildin, Melo (Kirby 50), Lachman, Beatson, Stobbs (Clarke 71), Croasdale, Kamara (Hirst 46), Meadows, Penney
