'We are ready', says Loovens

7 August 2014

  • Glenn Loovens feeling confident ahead of Brighton clash
  • Skipper aiming for a positive start to the season
  • Owls ace believes Seagulls fixture is a good starting point

Glenn Loovens is full of confidence and raring to go ahead of the Owls’ opening fixture of the Championship campaign.

The Wednesday skipper has said there is an upbeat mood in the squad and a positive feeling ahead of the long trip to The Amex to face Brighton.

During the first pre-match press conference of the new term on Thursday at Middlewood Road, Loovens said:

“The boys are ready to start the season, we’ve trained hard, look sharp and we’re ready.

“At the start of the season you should be positive, we have a good squad and we’re all looking forward to this game.”

After a strong 13/14 campaign, Brighton - who lost out in the Championship play-off semi finals – will provide a tough test for Wednesday.

But Loovens believes this type of fixture is a good start for the Owls and reasoned:

“It’s a difficult division, one of the toughest leagues in the world to predict but the boys are feeling good and hopefully we can build on last season.

“Brighton are a team that like to play football and normally these teams suit us better because we like to play as well, so I expect a tight game.

“Hopefully we can start strong and look up. We didn’t have a good start last season and we need to correct that.

“It’s vital to get a good buzz around the place and we want to do that by bringing three points back to Sheffield.”
