Wickham joins Wednesday

8 February 2013

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Premiership striker Connor Wickham on a youth loan deal.

The young Sunderland star has signed in time to feature in the Owls’ Championship home game against Derby County on Saturday.

Wickham cut a hugely impressive figure rising through the ranks with Ipswich Town and commanded a transfer fee of £8.1m when he joined the Black Cats in the summer of 2011 – the same year in which the Colchester product scooped the Football League Young Player of the Year award.

The talented teenager has made 45 senior starts so far, scoring 17 goals.

Wickham has also earned recognition on the international stage having been capped by England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level.

He was a key member of the England team that won the Under-17 European Championship in 2010, scoring the winner against Spain in the final.

Wickham will wear shirt number 22 for the duration of his S6 stay.
