You don't always get what you deserve

30 August 2014

  • Owls suffer first defeat of the new season
  • Wednesday dominated spells but couldn't score
  • Stuart Gray frustrated by Forest blank

Stuart Gray had full sympathy for his players following the 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Owls turned in what Gray tagged their best performance of the season so far and considered himself unlucky there was nothing to show for his side’s toils.

He said: “Sometimes in football you don’t get what you deserve and this was one of those occasions.

“I should be sitting here talking about a draw if not a win but we have nothing and that is disappointing.

“It would have been nice to go into the international break unbeaten but it wasn’t to be.

“We dominated periods of the game and Forest have only created a couple of chances and scored from one of them.

“We’ve worked their keeper and he was the Man of the Match I think, so I think that says a lot on just how far Sheffield Wednesday have come.”

With eight points from five games, the Owls head into the break well-placed and Gray says he could not have asked for more in terms of effort and commitment.

He added: “It’s full credit to them because they have given absolutely everything.

“It’s the least I ask for when anyone pulls on a Sheffield Wednesday shirt and they have responded to a man.

“We pushed Forest all the way and we could be talking about a side who are the potential champions of the division.

“The players can now have a break from the games but they have another busy period after the break.

“We’ve lost Glenn Loovens for the Bolton game with him receiving another yellow card today so that will give someone else the opportunity to come into the team.”
