SWFC Ability Counts

Posted on: Fri 10 Feb 2012

Introduction:
SWFC Ability Counts has been running for over 10 years and is currently led by Community Coach Paul Crossley, who has been involved for 7 years.

The Club is supported by SWFC and Sheffield and Hallamshire FA to provide footballing opportunities to young people and adults in Sheffield. The Club offers adults aged 16+ the opportunity to train and represent Sheffield Wednesday Ability Counts FC to take part in regular fixtures.

We currently run five adult teams based on ability and currently have players with the following disabilities playing for the club, including learning difficulties ( MLD and SLD), cerebral palsy, down syndrome, bi polar, ADHD, epilepsy, aspersers, autism, visually impaired, and a range of others.

We also run an Under-16s side (11-16) whom train at Goals Soccer Centre, and play bi monthly matches against other teams in Yorkshire.

What we Offer:
Sheffield Wednesday Ability Counts FC (Disability Football Club)

• Football for people with disabilities and additional needs.
• FA qualified Level 1 & 2 coaches.
• Come to train, have fun, meet new friends, play matches and represent Sheffield Wednesday.

Training: Venue and Times
Adults: SWFC Middlewood training ground (Middlewood Road - Sheffield Wednesday Academy) which all cost £3 per player.

Every Monday night 8.15pm - 9.30pm.

Teams & Matches
We have adult Premiership (7 a side), League 1 (7 a side), League 2 A (5 a side), League 2 B (5 a side), and League 3 (5 a side) teams. We also have recently established an u16 team (5 a side).

This means we cater for all abilities and levels and there is a guaranteed team for you to be part off.

There are a range of people with different disabilities at our club, and we pride ourselves on our social inclusion policy.

We play matches against other clubs in Yorkshire on Sundays in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Ability Counts League and we wear the Sheffield Wednesday kit which we provide.

We also have an 11 side team (Sheffield Wednesday Ability Counts Athletic FC) that plays in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Flexi Footie league every 2 weeks on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Furthermore, we play matches in other events, tournaments and festivals. Our annual Award Ceremony takes place at Hillisborough Stadium and our players have the opportunity to represent Sheffield Wednesday Ability Counts at Regional Finals and National Finals.

July 2011 - Over 40 members took part in a sponsored run from the SWFC Megastore to Rivelin Park to raise money to support the running of the club. Over £900 was raised by the players. This has been earmarked for a new kit and training kit, well done to all involved and whom sponsored this event.
