The Sheffield Wednesday Under-18s went down to a 3-0 defeat to local rivals Barnsley on Saturday.
The Owls fielded an under-strength team, with Tuesday's reserve team fixture against Shrewsbury in mind. Nathan Modest and Vadaine Oliver were rested, while elsewhere, Liam Palmer made the bench for the first team for the Ipswich clash.
The second string Shrews contest has since fallen victim to the current inclement weather, leaving the Owls disappointed every which way.
Assistant academy manager Nev Burbeary said: "We rested a couple of the lads ahead of the reserve team game so obviously, we were really disappointed to see the heavy snowfall that has caused the postponement of the game.
"It was touch and go whether the game at Barnsley would go ahead because the pitch was very hard. So all in all, the weather has not been kind to us.
"The one positive, though, was Liam Palmer making the bench for the first team, that was an excellent experience for him."
