Sheffield Wednesday's under-18s were defeated 3-1 by Newcastle United on Tuesday afternoon at Middlewood Road.

The match, which was re-arranged from the previous fixture date of January 9, saw the Owls 3-0 down at half time. But the academy side fought back after the break and Tom Hall scored a consolation goal to make the final score 3-1.

Academy manager, Sean McAuley, said: "In spite of the score line I was pleased with the players' performance because they did better than the 3-1 result suggests. It was quite a tight game but there were some strange decisions from the referee."
